
The Wayland softball team Monday afternoon continued its famous tradition of excellence by sweeping a doubleheader against Grand Rapids West Catholic to capture its 30th O-K Gold Conference championship in the sport’s 50th anniversary season.
The Lady Wildcats completed league play with a spotless 12-0 record and they now own a 27-5 record overall.
Winning pitchers again were junior ace Madi Ludema and senior Harmony Laker, who helped her own cause by clouting a home run during the twin bill.
Wayland now is making preparations for the Division 2 post-season district tournament. The Wildcats will play Hastings at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, in the first round of the tourney, which also will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 31, at Middleville Thornapple Kellogg High School.Other teams joining the ‘Cats in the competition will be the host school, Hopkins and Allegan, which will play at 12 noon May 31.
