Lady Wildcats coach 2nd in bowling tourney; soph wins gold

Wayland High School girls’ vaHolbrook & Urbanrsity bowling coach Bill Holbrook and sophomore Sydney Urban, one of his prize pupils, bowled Sunday in the State Games of Michigan – Winter Games. Holbrook came away with a silver medal and Urban. won the gold for the 12-to-15-year-old age group for girls.

“I just couldn’t quite catch up with Chris Slagter,” Holbrook explained. “It was a lot of fun. Bowling with all the different age groups from 11 and under to 55-plus makes for a fun tournament. It was great to see the kids and some of the up and coming talent.”

He noted Eric Bottrall, winner of the 11 and under group will be on the Wayland team in four or five years.

“Syd won gold and I won silver,” the coach said. “It was a very well run tournament and a nice turnout. I will definitely bowl in this again”
