The Wayland girls’ varsity basketball team has a date in the Division 2 district finals Friday evening with South Christian, in a rematch of last year’s finale.

The Lady Wildcats hiked their overall season record to 9-2 by cruising past West Michigan Aviation Academy 57-22. South Christian also cruised in its district semifinal over Grand River Prep.

Wayland was a bit rusty, having all of its regular season games canceled by Covid-19 over the last two weeks. The strange season helped result in the Lady Wildcats capturing the O-K Gold Conference championship with an 8-1 record. South Christian finished third.

The Sailors defeated Wayland in the district finals a year ago on their court, but this year’s contest, at 6:30 Friday, will be at Wayland.
