The Wayland girls’ varsity basketball team ended its regular season on a sour note Friday in a 54-53 upset loss at Forest Hills Eastern.
The Lady Wildcats already had captured the O-K Gold Conference championship earlier this week and finished the season with a league record of 12-2. South Christian and Kenowa Hills shared runner-up honors, both with four defeats.
Sophomore Harmony Laker led Wayland with 23 points, including a three-point field goal. Senior sister Liberty Laker added 14 with four threes and senior guard Maddy Terry added eight on a couple of threes.
The loss also dropped the Lady Wildcats’ final overall season record to 18-4. Forest Hills Eastern finished at 15-6.
They will play either Hamilton or Allegan at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Division 2 district semifinals at Hopkins. The host Vikings will take on Holland Christian in the first game Wednesday at 5:30.
