It was a particularly satisfying night Thursday night for the Wayland varsity volleyball team.
The Lady Wildcats turned back Middleville Thornapple Kellogg in the battle for second place in the O-K Gold Conference, prevailing in three of the four games, 22-25, 25-22, 29-27 and 25-12. It was also Seniors’ Night, including the presence of parents.
Grand Rapids South Christian took the top spot in the O-K Gold with a 10-0 dual match record, Wayland was 7-3 and Middleville 6-4. Overall, the Wildcats are 21-14-4.
It was the final home contest for seniors Sydney Ritz, Kamie Swan, and Lyndie VanMalsen.
Leading the Wildcats were Sydney Ritz with 16 kills and Taryn Coughlin 11; Leigha Morse with 38 assists; Lyndie VanMalsen 22 digs; Macy Hudson two serving aces and Coughlin two blocks.
