The Wayland High School varsity softball team seems back on track after a bit of difficult start for the season.

The Lady Wildcats Tuesday recorded their sixth victory in their last seven outings by sweeping Wyoming 16-0 and 19-2 in an O-K Gold Conference doubleheader on their home field. The twin wins also improved their league record to 5-1.

Abby Merice pitched a no-hitter in the opener, striking out 8 of the 10 batters she faced in three innings of work. Both games were shortened by the mercy rule.

Leading the Wildcats offensively were Kayla Reed, 3-for-3 with a double and four RBIs; Lauren McCulligh 3-3 with a triple and an RBI; Chanlyn Commons 2-3 and Sydney Urben 2-3 with a double.

Merice picked up the win in the circle pitching four shutout innings only allowing two hits while striking out eight batters. The Wolves scored two runs in the fifth inning.

Sydney Urben clubbed a towering home run and went 3-for-5- with five runs batted in to pace the offensive effort. Maddie Morgrette was 1-1 and Chanlyn Commons 3-3 with a double.

Wayland now is 7-4 for the season overall and will be host for the Wayland Invitational Saturday morning and afternoon.
