The Wayland High girls’ varsity golf team shot a much-improved 185 Monday in the third O-K Gold Conference jamboree of the season, this one at the Yankee Springs Golf Course.

South Christian was a distant first with an excellent round of 166, but the rest of the league was grouped closely together with only 10 strokes separating second and fifth place. Wayland’s 185 to was good for fourth. Grand Rapids Christian was runner-up and East Grand Rapids third.

Individual scores for the Lady Wildcats were Lauren Drew 44, Abby Omness 45, Chloe Coughlin 47 and Savannah Jones 49. They improved over the first league outing Aug. 30, in which they were sixth with a 216 and last Wednesday at Egypt Valley, where they took third with a 205.

“It was a beautiful day for golf at Yankee Springs and the Wayland girls shot their best score of the year,” said coach Chris Drew. “The girls were excited to play a course they were a little more familiar with and it really helped their confidence.”

Wayland will be host for the fourth Jamboree of the season Wednesday afternoon at Orchard Hills golf course.
