Lady Wildcats finish in middle of the pack at MSU invitational

The Wayland boys’ varsity cross-country team finished 36th among 39 teams Friday at the annual Michigan State University Spartan Invitational and the girls’ squad was in the middle of the pack in 22nd place among 37 teams.

The annual race was held on the Forest Akers East Golf Course.

The Wildcat boys accumulated 1,070 team points. Chesea won with 70 and Allendale was runner-up with 105.

Checking in first individually for Wayland was senior Ian Russell, who had a time of 20:47.9 along the 5K course. Freshman Jared Jandernoa was 230th, freshman Travis Koon 233rd, senior Steven Mosher 274th and freshman Devin Weaver 290th.

There was a total of 347 male harriers in the race.

Freshman Olivia Barabas again was the fasest of the Lady Wildcats, checking in 54th with a time of 21:37.5. She was followed by senior co-captain Gracie Hasse at 78th, sophomore Hannah Smith 135th, junior Naomi Oosterhouse 179th and sophomore Serenna VanHouten 184th.

Three hundred and thirty-five young ladies competed.
