Wayland continued its girls’ bowling winning tradition Monday, with freshman Kadence Bottrall’s terrorizing 248 game sparking a 28-2 rout of East Grand Rapids.
The guys, however, came up just short in a 17-13 verdict.
Wayland girls took both Baker games with scores of 152 and 146, along with eight out of nine points in the next two match games. Earning wins were Brooke Bixler 169 and 131, Haley Taylor 149, Bella Harnish 158 and 169, Carlie Anes 104 and Bottrall 180 and 248.
“We received some amazing news tonight in that league leading Zeeland was beaten by TK this afternoon,” said coach Eric Bottrall. “Wayland had previously tied Zeeland and we beat TK. This opens up first place and there will be plenty of teams competing for it!
“Wayland can assure themselves a top finish by beating both Zeeland on Wednesday at Zeeland Lanes and Unity Christian next Monday at home. The ladies would love some cheering next Monday!”
The Wildcat boys started fast by taking both Baker games against The Pioneers and were up 10-0, but failed to come away with a win.
East came out on fire in match one and the ‘Cats managed only one point, from Jordan Fitzgerald with a 175 game.
“I reasoned with the guys that it is tough for a team who gets hot to roll that well two games in a row,” said coach Sherry Rybiski Milkusicak. “After all we were still winning 11-8.”
But Waylans pretty much fell flat with only two more points out of the remaining 11.
“Steven Harnish is rolling his ball much better and he came away with a win, along with Jordan Fitzgerald again,” Miklusicak said. “As a coach, I am frustrated and I am sure the boys are too. We are doing great with the beginning of the matches, we just have to figure out our individual games by filling frames! It isn’t about strikes, as we have a good share of strikes. We need to convert spares!”
