The Wayland girls’ basketball team Thursday evening lifted their overall record to 9-3 and O-K Gold Conference mark to 4-1 with a 49-39 victory of Grand Rapids Northview.
The Lady Wildcats are locked in a struggle for second place in the league with South Christian, and both are chasing undefeated Gold leader West Catholic.
The Wayland boys later Thursday evening bowed to perhaps the best boys’ hoops outfit in the league by a 54-24 count. Northview now is 11-2 overall while the ‘Cats are 6-6.
Harmony Laker again was the leading scorer for Wayland, dropping in 17 points, but she didn’t manage to sink a three for the night.
Izzy Johnson did make a three and she and Marissa Ainsworth both scored nine points for Wayland.
The Lady Wildcats have a crucial date on the court next week Friday, Jan. 24, against South Christian.
