The Wayland girls’ varsity basketball squad lost a non-league contest Saturday afternoon, 71-42, to an undefeated Lowell outfit in a game at the Cornerstone Holiday Tournament.

The Lady Wildcats, who continue to be plagued by turnovers, fell to 2-4 overall while the Red Arrows now are 4-0.

Junior Harmony Laker nailed four three-point field goals and had 20 points to pace Wayland. Addy Sikorsky added 12 points. Also adding three three were sophomores Taylor Wolf with a couple and Taylor Lyon with one.

The ‘Cats will open O-K Gold Conference action Friday, Jan. 5, against Grand Rapids Ottawa Hills.

The Wayland Union boys’ varsity basketball team lost 76-42 to Division 1 Portage Central Saturday afternoon.

The game was one of several in the annual Cornerstone University Holiday tournament.

The defeat left the Wildcats with an overall record of 1-6. They will take a rest over the holidays and then entertain O-K Gold Conference opponent Grand Rapids Ottawa Hills Friday evening, Jan. 5.
