The Wayland girls’ varsity basketball team Tuesday night made its O-K Gold Conference championship official, and it wasn’t pretty.

The Lady Wildcats hammered host Ottawa Hills 71-18 to lift their league record to 12-1 and cement their title outright.

Eleven of the team members broke into the scoring column, as the Wildcats partied on the Bengals’ court.

Senior guard Maddy Terry nailed six three-point field goals to lead the scoring parade with 18 points. Sophomore Harmony Laker was “held” to nine points, freshmen LaneyWolf and Addi Sikorski both added eight points and senior Liberty Laker and junior Reese Coughlin each contributed six.

The Lady ‘Cats, now 18-3 overall, have only one more ballgame, at Forest Hills Eastern Friday evening, before they attempt to defend their district championship from a year ago next week at Hopkins. They will meet either Allegan or Hamilton in the district semifinals Wednesday at 7 p.m.
