The Wayland High School girls’ varsity golf team concluded it season by finishing fourth in the Division 2 regional tournament Thursday at the Stonewater Country Club in Kentwood.
The Lady Wildcats fired an 18-hole score of 386, which was just three strokes away from third-place Forest Hills Eastern’s 383. The top three teams in the regional tourney qualify for the state championship round in Battle Creek.
Hastings won the regional crown for the second year in a row with a 364 an South Christian was runner-up at 370. A total of 13 teams competed.
Wayland last year, led by all-stater Ali Martus, qualified for the state tourney. The team earlier this season broke the school record for lowest nine-hole score with a 367.
