Lady Wildcats, missing No. 2 harrier, take 4th at Cedar

The Wayland girls’ varsity cross-country squad turned in 10 personal best times in finishing fourth among 10 teams competing Saturday at the Cedar Springs Invitational.

Grandville Calvin Christian won the meet with 26 points, GR Covenant Christian had 86, Middleville Thornapple Kellogg 92 and Wayland 98.

The Lady Wildcats once again were competing without their No. 2 runner, Naomi Oosterhouse, who is injured.

Rylee Cronkright paced them in sixth place, Gracie Hasse was 12th, Zoe Antel was 20th, Haylee Jasinski 25th and Corrina Courser 38th. Complete individual times were not available.

The Wayland boys’ team, meanwhile, placed 10th among a dozen teams

The Wildcats checked in with 275 points, ahead of Grand Rapids Wellspring Prep and Libertas Christian. Host Cedar Springs won the boys’ competition with 35 points, Grant was runner-up with 75 and Grandville Calvin Christian had 79.

Sophomore Elijah Gamelin led Wayland with a 50th-place finish in 18:56.21 and junior Ian Russell was right behind him in 51st at 18:56.92.

Jarod Geerligs was 56th in 19:15.11 and Christian Courser and Andrew VanBaal took 66th and 67th, respectively.

The Wayland cross-country teams will not return to competition until they participate next Saturday in the Otsego Invitational.
