Parrish Hudson

So how good is the Wayland girls’ basketball team this year? Is it rags to riches?

Coach Wes Hudson’s Lady Wildcats are off to their best start since he took over the reigns of the program four seasons ago, winning their first two encounters by about 20 points each time. They took a 71-52 victory over visiting non-league opponent Vicksburg Monday night.

The visiting squad came in with a 1-1 record, beating Comstock, but getting clobbered by Three Rivers. The Bulldogs were able to hang with Wayland for nearly a half, trailing only 31-23 at intermission.

Just like in the season opener last against Hastings, 6-2 junior pivot Stephanie Ainsworth was too much to handle. This time she avoided getting into foul trouble, as she dropped in 29 points.

Junior guard Parrish Hudson counted 14 points, Haley Dobry seven, sophomore Emma Ludema six and freshman Maddy Terry five.

The Lady ‘Cats will hit the road for their next three ballgames, at Caledonia Tuesday, at Kenowa Hills Friday and at Black River the following Tuesday.
