So how can you explain the inexplicable?
The Wayland girls’ basketball team’s performances this week have been like a yo-yo. On Tuesday the Lady Wildcats were basking in the glow of a hugely satisfying 50-32 victory over a previously unbeaten South Christian squad, but Thursday night they couldn’t score as many as 30 in a 30-28 upset defeat at the hands of Grand Rapids Covenant Christian.
The Wayland boys were on the road Thursday evening when they lost 63-41 to the host Panthers, dropping their overall season record to 1-4.
It was the first time this season the Wayland girls have been held below 50, and though it was a non-league game, it hurt. The loss dropped their overall season record to 4-1. The Chargers now are 3-1.
The Lady Wildcats will be at home Friday night against Middleville Thornapple Kellogg. The boys, meanwhile, will play at TK.
