The Wayland High School varsity softball team claimed its fifth consecutive victory Thursday afternoon by sweeping O-K Gold Conference rival South Christian 14-4 and 12-4.
The twin bill served as a warmup for the Wayland Invitational Saturday, May 1.
Junior Emma Ludema took the victory on the mound, striking out eight batters.
Leading the Lady Wildcats’offensive attack was Ludema, Kaelyn Sikkema and Kayla Reed with two singles apiece. Kennedy, along with Rya VanderKooi and Oakleigh Hulst each added one hit.
Leading the Wildcats’hitting attack in the nightcap were Emma Tornes, who went 3-for-3, with a triple and two singles and Kami Morse with a double and a single. Rya VanderKooi, Kayla Reed and Kylie Mutschler, each had one hit, all singles.
Wayland now is 8-2 overall and 4-0 in league play.
