The Wayland girls’ varsity basketball team scored a 56-47 victory Friday night at Kenowa Hills in its O-K Gold Conference opener.

The Lady Wildcats had the offense clicking in the opening 16 minutes and took a 36-27 advantage into intermission. They widened the gap to as many as 15 points, 52-37 in the last minute of the third quarter, but then got sloppy in the final period, scoring only four points and allowing the Knights to whittle their deficit down to single digits.

One offensive highlight was that point guard Mady Terry nailed four three-point field goals.

Wayland now owns a 4-2 overall record, 1-0 in the league, and will play Ottawa Hills Tuesday.

Kenowa Hills, with the loss, dropped to 4-2 overall.
