Lady Wildcats rebound from bad start, sweep twin bill

Just when things were looking bleak for the Wayland girls’ varsity softball team, the Lady Wildcats came up with a crucial doubleheader sweep, 2-0 and 4-3, at Grand Rapids South Christian Monday.

The victories lifted their overall record to 3-3 and 3-1 in the O-K Gold Conference.

Senior Chloe Coughlin (pictured) had a walk-off hit in the eighth inning of the nightcap and Abby Merice (cover photo) turned in a couple of gutsy performances on the mound.

Merice allowed seven hits while striking out 11 in game two. Leading the Wildcats offensively in were Lauren McCulligh 2-3 with a double and an RBI, Kayla Reed 2-4 with two doubles and an RBI

Lauren Chiaramonte 1-3 with a stolen base.
Merice pitched a complete game shutout, only allowing 3 hits while striking out 11 in the opener.
Ally Longstreet went 3-3 with a double and an RBI, Merice was 1-3 with an RBI and walk, Sydney Urben had a double, Lauren Chiaramonte 1-3 with a stolen base.

    Ally Longstreet went 3 for 3 in the first game 2 singles and a double with a rbi and scored for a 2 to 0 win

      Had I known this, I would have reported it. Coaches aren’t particularly cooperative about providing information and I refuse to chase them down.
