Lady Wildcats regain their bowling chops in 28-2 win

The Wayland girls’ varsity bowling team turned back Cedar Springs on their home turf Tuesday afternoon at the Rock ‘N Bowl.

The Lady Wildcats prevailed 28-2 just 24 hours after absorbing their first dual match loss in the O-K Gold Conference at the hands of Middleville Thornapple Kellogg.

Wildcat boys’ coach Sherry Rybiski said, “My father, Frank Rybiski, always told me that as a kid if Wayland got beat (whether it was football or baseball) no one wanted to play them next! Well you could say that about today’s match against Cedar Springs.”

Wayland’s Baker games of 160 and 156 gave it a 10-0 lead.

In the first matchup, Breanna Hyde’s 201 took a point, Izzy Botwinski had a 134 and took point, Haven Baker 124 took point, Isabella Harnish 198 (took point) and Kadence Bottrall 148.

In match two, the girls again took four of five possible points with Breanna Hyde, Izzy Botwinski 156, Haven Baker 156, Isabella Harnish 167 and Kadence Bottrall 202.

The Wayland boys rolled their highest two-game match of the season, but still came up short.

“It was great to get a couple of varsity players back from their choir competitions,” Miklusicak said. “We are hoping one more will be with us soon!”

The Wildcats’ goal was to win both Baker games this afternoon and they put up a great effort with the first Baker game of 181, but that was 11 pins short. They claimed the second Baker 163-160 and went up 6-4.

Match one games: 126, Kyle VanEss 157; Stephen Harnish 196 (took his point); Chandler Caruso 176, and Mark Musgrave 203 (just 8 pins short).

Match 2 Games: Ashton Kasprowicz 157 (took his point), Kyle VanEss 187, Stephen Harnish 211 (took his point), Chandler Caruso 202 (took his point), and Mark Musgrave III 165.

“I am very proud of how the boys bowled tonight,” the coach said. “The matches were much closer than the final score indicated.

“Wayland jayvees team won 22-8! That is fun to discuss as we usually don’t have any competition! Highlights go out to Dominik Baker with a 140 game and Carter Decker with two nice games of 176 and 181.”
