The Wayland varsity softball team made it to the championship game Saturday night before losing in the finals at the Ann Arbor Invitational to Dakota, the No. 1 ranked team in Division 1 in the state. The Lady Wildcats defeated Sterling Heights Stevenson, Ann Arbor Huron, Oscoda, Allen Park and Monroe St. Mary Catholic, and lost 3-2 to Temperance Bedford.Wayland, which is coming off its 13th consecutive O-K Gold Conference championship, finished second out of 20 teams this weekend. The Lady Wildcats won three games on Friday and split one of two Saturday to claim the runner-up trophy. Wayland has a 17-10-2 record for the season overall.
