Lady Wildcats settle for 3rd in O-K Gold hoop standings

The Wayland girls’ basketball team concluded its regular season Thursday night with a 54-46 loss at Cedar Springs.

It was a battle for second place in the final O-K Gold Conference standings. Cedar captured the runner-up slot with an 11-3 record and Wayland ended up at 10-4. Grand Rapids Catholic Central won the league championship with a 13-1 mark.

The Lady Wildcats lost to Cedar Springs at home last month, 61-60, on their home court and lost twice, once also in overtime, to Catholic Central. Their overall record was 14-8 and they will face Grand Rapids South Christian Wednesday in the Division 2 semifinals on the Sailors’ court.

Cedar Springs was successful in limiting junior scoring ace Harmony Laker to just 10 points. Addy Sikorsky added seven points and freshmen Lauren Bultsma and Marissa Ainsworth both had six.

The ‘Cats managed to sink only two three-point field goals, one each by Laker and another senior Ava Makowski.
