The Wayland girls’ varsity golf team recorded its best finish this season in O-K Gold Conference jamborees, taking third place Monday at Maple Hill.
South Christian won the meet with a combined score of 161, Grand Rapids Christian was second with 165 and Wayland was just two strokes behind the runner-up slot with a score of 167. Seven schools compete in the league jamborees. The Lady Wildcats until Monday had finished fifth and sixth.
The Lady Wildcats shot so well together that the total score was a school record.
“What a great night for the varsity girls golf team at Maple Hill!” exclaimed coach Chris Drew, noting the previous record, even in the heady days of Ali Martus, was 181.
The girls were lead by Alexis Kirschbaum with a 36, Hunter Fenton with a 38, Lauren Drew with a 44 and Marisa Schild with a 49.
Wayland will be back in league jamboree action at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday at the Thousand Oaks Golf Course.
