The Wayland varsity girls soccer timgeam won one, lost one and tied one in its three encounters Saturday at the Comstock Park Invitational.

The morning began with a rematch with Zeeland West as the girls tried to get a small piece of revenge for an early season 4-1 loss to the Dux. The game ended in a 0-0 tie that saw both teams evenly compete to win the game on several occasions.

The second game of the day for the Wildcats was against Big Rapids and ended in a 2-0 loss.

Coach Ben Sleeman commented, “Paxton Granger played well in net and made six saves on eight shots, none bigger than her kick save to prevent a breakaway goal and keep the game close early in the second half.”

The final match was a breakout game for the Wildcat offense, scoring 5 goals in a 5-0 win over host Comstock Park. Madie Aylworth scored twice, Haley Thelen scored her first goal of the season, Hannah Henney found the back of the net with her head on a corner kick, and Brinley Nieuwenhuis added a goal directly from a corner kick late in the game.

The Lady Wildcats now own a 4-7-2 record this season.
