The Wayland girls’ varsity bowling team captured the O-K Gold/Green Conference championship Saturday by almost 400 pins.

“I heard the second place coaches commenting and shaking their heads by the landslide victory.,” said boys’ coach Sherry Miklusicak. “This team is probably the best division 2 team on this side of the state. Tournaments have provided the best competition for the girls this year as we compete with Division 1 teams as well.”

Scores by Lady Wildcats competing in Saturday’s final conference gig of the season were:
• Senior Jessica Henderson 162.
• Senior Makayla Konecny 116, 184, 122.
• Junior Amber Beggs 135, 216.
• Junior Mackenzie Banas 161, 178, 142.
• Senior Marissa BruinsSlot 174, 157, 187.
• Senior Sydney Urben 230, 214, 184 for a 628 series.
Baker games: 170, 211, 151, 172.

Making the All-Tournament team for Wayland were Urben, who finished in first place and BruinsSlot, who finished in seventh place. Just missing the top 10 was Banas, who finished 12th.

The All-Conference team included Urben, who topped the league with a 207 average while the nearest competitor had 184, seventh place BruinsSlot with a 172 average, and Banas with a 170 average, and Amber Beggs, who had a 158 average. Honorable mention accolades also went to Henderson.

“The ladies will see some good competition at Continental Lanes this week Friday and Saturday at regionals,” Miklusicak said. “If we finish in the top three, we are off to state finals the next weekend!”
