Lady Wildcats sweep another O-K Gold opponent

Madi Ludema had a really good ballgame against Grand Rapids Catholic Central in the twin bill opener Thursday in a 19-1 victory and then the “Cats cruised to a 15-0 victory in the nightcap.

Wayland, with the sweep, hiked its O-K Gold Conference record to 8-0 and 15-4 overall.

Ludema hurled four innings in game one, walking one and striking out two, yielding four hits. On the offensive side she went 3-for-3 and collected five runs batted in.

Shortstop Hannah Rairigh also went 3-for-3 and had four RBIs. Carli Miklusicak drove home three runs with her two hits and Loren Wight Kaylee Lown and Reese Veltman also contributed two hits to the attack.

Laker and Ludema both clouted a home run, Ludema and Miklusicak added two doubles and Veltman and Raegan Cardosa had a two-bagger apiece.

The Wildcats scored four runs in the first inning and added five more in each of the following three frames to shorten the duration of the game to five innings because of the 10-run mercy rule.

Harmony Laker threw three and two-thirds inning in the nightcap and Miklusicak finished on the mound. Laker didn’t walk anybody and struck out three.

Laker, Coon, Wright and Veltman each had two hits for Wayland in game two. Miklusicak had one hit and four RBIs.

Wayland scored five runs in the first, four in the second and sixth in the fourth to shorten the length of the ballgame. The Cougars, meanwhile, had only one hit.
