The Wayland girls’ varsity track team finished fifth among eight teams at the Comstock Park Invitational Saturday.
East Grand Rapids won the meet with 859 points. Wayland had 482.
Lauryn Spencer, a newcomer to the team this year, recorded a first place finish in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 17.45 seconds.
Lady Wildcats Maggie Whitney, Zoe Antel, Kaitlyn Paul and Riley Shepherd) started out the day with a seasonal best time in the 3200-meter relay with a time of 11:08.12, good enough for a third place medal.
Other performances of note were:
• Junior Jenae Mutschler finished sixth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.9.
• The 800-relay team of Spencer, Bilger, Mutschler and Santos finished sixth in 2:04.84.
• Whitney, finished sixth in the 1600 -meter run at 5:54.14, followed by Antel (6:06.17) and Paul (6:29.29).
• The 400 relay with Spencer, Bilger, Mutschler and Santos took fourth.
• Spencer, just getting used to the longer distance of the 300 hurdles, finished eighth (56.36).
• Finishing ninth in the 800, Antel recorded a time of 2:54.79. She was followed closely by Mickala Kohtz (2:59.16).
• Mutschler was top finisher in the 200 with a time of 29.87, finishing 12th.
• Whitney finished the open 3200 with a time of 13:58, coming in eighth overall.
• The 1600 relay team of Bilger, Haase, Huffman and Antel, finished fifth.
• Brittany Ludwig was 13th with a long jump of 12’5″.
• Brooke Mulder threw 79’3″ in the disc and 29’6″ in the shot finishing seventh in both. McKenna Dutkiewicz threw 75’1″ and 25’11” in the disc and shot. Elizabeth Barnes threw the shot 24’3″ for a new personal best.
