The Wayland varsity softball team Saturday at 10 a.m. will take on a Coldwater team that has a 20-17 season record hiding the fact it has faced a lot of state-ranked teams.
The Cardinals have lost three times to No. 9 Otsego, but twice by only one run.
Wayland will enter the contest riding a 31-3 overall record, a 9-6 victory over Otsego in the district finals and a scorching 28 wins in its last 29 games. Coach Cheri Ritz is accustomed to winning league and district championships, having captured 23 district titles.
The other district semifinal in Otsego Saturday will be between No. 3 Stevensville Lakeshore, which at last report has only one loss this season, and Edwardsburg, which sports a 26-9 overall season record.
Ironically, it was Edwardsburg that the Lady Wildcats’ basketball team defeated in the regional finals last March.
The finals will get under way at 2 p.m. at the Otsego High School softball field.
