The Wayland varsity softball team Tuesday defeated Wyoming 4-1 in a non-league nine-inning game to improve its overall season record to 29-2.
The contest was a sort of tuneup for the Lady Wildcats, who will play in the Class B district semifinals at 10 a.m. Saturday in Hopkins. They will take on Middleville Thornapple Kellogg, which defeated host Hopkins 7-5 in a pre-district contest Tuesday night. The Lady Wildcats already have defeated Middleville twice this season in O-K Gold Conference play.
Allegan will play Hamilton at noon in the other district semifinal. The Hawkeyes mercied Hastings 10-0 in six innings Tuesday night to advance.
The two winners in the semifinal round will meet in the district finals at 2 p.m.
In the “Tuesday tuneup,” Senior ace hurler Mallory Teunissen earned her 300th strikeout of the season and chalked up 22 in the game. Leading the Wildcats offensively were Hailey Houck, Sydney Urben and Mallory Teunissen.
