Stephanie Ainsworth: 33 points, but she fouled out.

The Wayland High School girls’ varsity basketball winning streak came to an end at eight Tuesday night at Wyoming.

The Lady Wildcats battled their hosts evenly throughout the first three quarters, trailing just 49-48 going into the last eight minutes, but things fell apart the rest of the way.

The loss was Wayland’s first in nine games this season and it evened its O-K Gold Conference record at 1-1. It doesn’t get any easier this Friday, as league powerhouse East Grand Rapids comes to town with just one defeat this season.

The Lady Wildcats fell behind 19-14 in the first quarter and 33-28 at intermission before battling back to cut the deficit to only one point.

Junior pivot Stephanie Ainsworth led Wayland with 33 points and junior guard Parrish Hudson added 13. Freshman Maddy Terry had seven.

Both Ainsworth and guard Kenzie Wolf fouled out of the contest.
