Madelyn Schans tosses softball no-hitter at Godwin

Junior Madelyn Schans tossed a no-hitter Monday for the Hopkins softball team in a 16-0 victory over Godwin.

The Lady Vikings got things moving in the first inning, when Schans singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run.

Hopkins scored six runs in the seventh inning. Kaitlin Bluhm, Hannah Wubben, Haleigh Miller and Jasmine Machin all drove in runs during the rally.

Schans struck out 16 Wolverine batters.

“We saw the ball well today, racking up 18 hits in the game,” said coach Amy Bishop-Funk.

Maddie Wyngarden. Sierra Smith, Bluhm, Wubben and Schans all managed multiple hits. Wyngarden led with four hits in five at bats.

“We didn’t commit a single error in the field. Emily Dimock (freshman) caught and did a great job behind the plate,” added Bishop-Funk.

Emma Martinosi, Madelyn Schans, Morgan Dyksta, Kaitlyn Bluhm, Hannah Wubben all had two hits apiece to spark the second game triumph Wednesday, 17-0. Winning pitcher was Sierra Smith (a freshman).

The Lady Vikings now own an overall record of 3-2.
