Martin and Hopkins boys’ teams are still unbeaten

Will no one stop the streaking Martin boys’ basketball team?

Coach Brad Moelker’s Clippers Tuesday night cruised to their fourth consecutive victory on the hardcourt this season with a 53-33 decision over Zion Christian in Byron Center. It’s the best start Martin has had in a long time.

Hopkins is another hoops squad off to a quick start. The Vikings turned back Comstock Park 54-42 to improve their season record to 3-0.

Looking ahead to Friday, the boys will again be on the road traveling with the Lady Clippers at SAC rival Saugatuck.

The news Tuesday evening wasn’t so good, however, for the Hopkins and Wayland girls and the Wayland boys.

The Lady Vikings fell 65-51 to Comstock Park. Kennedy Helderop led Hopkins (0-2) with 22 points 6 rebounds and 9 steals.  Olivia Sebright added 8 points and 6 rebounds to the cause. Hopkins plays an away contest with Allendale on Friday.

Lady Wildcats came up short 42-36 in their season opener against Caledonia. The Wildcat boys, after an impressive win over Lowell in their season debut, lost 54-45 to Caledonia.
