Martin begins state title defense with shutout, 50-0

So Martin just keeps rolling along.

The Clippers, after taking back-to-back state eight-man football championships, started strong once again Saturday with a convincing 50-0 triumph over the Leo-Cedarville Christian Crusaders from Indiana.

The defnding champs scored all 50 points in the first three quarters before easing up on the gas for the reat of the way.

It was Martin’s 58th victory in 70 outings since they made the switch from 11-man to eight-man football. The local gridders won 33 times in three consecutive years while suffering only five defeats.

Because of the long distance between the two schools, the game was a matinee that commenced at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Martin will face a stern test next Friday against a Bridgman outfit that pinned a 16-14 loss on the Clippers a year ago.
