Martin had an even better encounter than a year ago than last year’s 41-0 triumph over Tekonsha in the eight-man football playoffs, posting a 68-6 victory Friday night on its home field.

The football season for Hopkins, meanwhile, came to an end at Berrien Springs with a post-season playoff loss, 34-27.

The host Shamrocks came up with a touchdown and two-point conversion to overcome a 27-26 deficit with a little more than five minutes left to play.

The two teams furiously traded touchdowns throughout the second half. The Vikings, down 13-7 at intermission, tied it up quickly in the third period before the offensive exchanges began.

Hopkins struck first late in the first quarter, but Berrien Springs scored twice in the second period too take the halftime lead.

The Vikings finished their season with a 5-5 overall record.

The Clippers, smarting from a 35-34 loss to unbeaten Bridgman the week before, wasted no time in dominating Tekonsha. They were enjoying a 56-0 margin at intermission and coasted the rest of the way.

Martin now has scored a whopping 533 points in its 10 games, averaging better than 50 points per contest. It may be the most productive offensive season the Clippers or Onion Kings have ever had.

But now it’s on to the second round next weekend.
