Martin’s first cross-country boys’ team and later four more girls made the Lady Clippers a team.

Martin polished off a successful first year in cross country by taking fifth place in the Division 4 boys’ regional meet at Allendale Saturday.

The Clippers recorded 96 team points and four of the team members ran in less than 20 minutes over the 5,000-meter course.

Muskegon West Michigan Christian won the regional title with 54 points, White Cloud was runner-up at 71 and Bridgman third at 86.

Brysan Young paced Martin, as he has done all season long, finishing seventh with his personal best time of 17:45.41. His younger brother Carsen was 13th in 18:17.06, right behind him in 16th was Seth Hentschel in 18:30.98 and Kyle Pallett was 23rd in 19:16.82. Rounding out the scoring was Joshua Visser in 38th in 20:46.96, about a half second faster than his brother, Kyle.

The Martin girls’ team, also in its first year of competition, was eighth in the regional meet with 190 points. The Lady Clippers did not field a full team until well into the season.

Sara Tyrell led the way, finishing 17th in 22:34.95. Danica Pallett was 35th, Amy Harris 40th, Esther Tyrell 47th and Haley Wooten 51st.

White Cloud won the regional championship with 68 points, while Bridgman and Libertas Christian tied for the runner-up slot with 71.
