Martin is the only area boys’ varsity basketball team still standing after district tournament semifinal play Wednesday evening.
The Clippers turned back Kalamazoo Heritage Christian 48-14 to earn a date in the finals Friday at 7 p.m. against an 18-4 Hoilland Calvary team that defeated Lawrence in the other semifinal. Martin’s victory lifted its overall season record to 12-10.
Meanwhile, Hopkins’ season ended with a 14-7 overall record with a 66-49 loss to Otsego at Hastings. The Bulldogs, now 21-1 for the season, will take on South Christian, 15-7, Friday night in the district finals.
South Christian in the early game Wednesday beat Wayland 71-23 to make the Wildcats’ season winless in 21 tries. Wayland last went went 0-21 in its 1991-92 campaign.
The Martin girls’ basketball team will play at 6:30 p.m. Thursday against St. Joseph Michigan Lutheran for a regional championship.
