Martin’s varsity football team captured its sixth win in eight tries Thursday night by defeating Marcellus 28-14 in a non-league contest.

The game was held Thursday rather than on a customary Friday evening because they were unable to get referees. Martin was clinging to a 22-14 lead at intermission and held the Wildcats scoreless in the second half.

It was a quality victory for the Clippers, as Marcellus sported a 6-1 record at the beginning of the contest. The Wildcats play in a different Southwest Athletic Conference division for eight-man teams.

Interestingly, Marcellus’ only defeat this season until Thursday evening was at the hands of undefeated Maple Valley, which will be Martin’s opponent next Friday in the regular season finale.

Regardless, it appears the Clippers, defending state champions in eight-man football, will be in the post-season playoffs with either six or seven victories.
