The Martin girls’ basketball team claimed its second consecutive district tournament championship Friday evening with a convincing 55-22 over Battle Creek Calhoun Christian.
The Clippers, who improved their overall season record to 14-8, now will face Tri-Unity Christian in the Class D regional semifinals Tuesday at Mendon.
After taking an 8-4 lead in the first quarter, Martin held its opponent scoreless in the second to mount a 20-4 advantage at intermission and it rode a 24-9 advantage in the last eight minutes of the contest.
Junior Jazmine Hildebrand had another fine game, scoring 10 points, hauling down 10 rebounds and coming up with five steals. Senior Cassidy Beazley netted nine points and collected 14 rebounds and Taylor Curry had sex steals, four assists, 10 rebounds and six points.
Pam Heijerman tallied nine points, Zoe Veltman counted eight.
The Clipper girls will be back in action at 6 p.m. Tuesday against Tri-Unity team that sports a 17-6 overall record and a 64-45 victory over Wyoming Potter’s House in its district finale Friday.
