Martin won the Southwest Athletic Conference wrestling tournament Saturday to claim a share of the overall SAC title.
Constantine won the dual meet portion of the season and owned a 37-23 decision over the Clippers last month, so Martin’s tournament championship forced the tie.
Martin accumulated 230 points in the tournament and Constantine was second with 206.5. Thirteen teams took part in the competition.
Six Clippers earned first-place medals:
• 106 pounds – Logan Gilbert (Record: 38-3) pinned Ryan Boehm (Parchment) in just 37 seconds in the quarterfinal round. In the semifinal round, he pinned AJ Lorenz (Delton Kellogg) in 32 seconds. He pinned Jose Boger (Gobles) 1:34 in the championship round.
• 120 lbs. – Cole Reitz (Record: 26-9) pinned Lucas Noola (Schoolcraft) in 2:27 in the quarterfinal. He then scored a major decision over Devin Doorlag (Gobles), 10-0. Reitz (Martin) won the finals match by fall over Finn Carlin (Gobles) in 3:36.
• 126 lbs. – Jayce Ritchie (Record: 19-1) pinned Lex Specchio (South Haven) 1:53 in the opening round,pinned Preston Like (Constantine) in 46 seconds in the semifinals and then recorded a 5-0 decision over Luke Isbrecht (Watervliet) in the finals.
• 132 – Haylen Buell (Record: 30-4) pinned Jaxsen Ray (Galesburg-Augusta) in 1:54 in the first round, pinned Jose Garcia (South Haven) in 1:13 in the semifinals and edged Bear Geibe (Constantine) in an 11-9 decision in the championship round.
• 138 – Jack Bagwell (Record: 40-8) pinned Tucker Arend (Coloma) in one minute flat in the quarterfinals, pinned Tucker Tack (Delton Kellogg) in 1:20 in the second round and then won a 10-8 sudden victory over Trenton Mansfield in the title match.
• 215 – Sam Bleeker (Record: 20-8) pinned Brady Towery (Galesburg-Augusta) in just 13 seconds in pinned Gabe Reynoso (Gobles) in 1:34 in the semis and then won a 12-2 major decision over Simon Hiatt (South Haven) for the title.
Earning second place medals for the Clippers were Kristian Heighton at 113 and Malcolm Smith at 175. Max Bleeker at 285 and Jonathon Owen at 190 earned fourth place medals. Also scoring points during the meet were Anderson Keeler, Joshua Walman, Matthew Holmes and Seth Toris.
The Clippers next will face Gobles in the team district tournament at Gobles either Wednesday, Feb. 7, or Thursday, Feb. 8.
