Martin frosh cross runner already owns school record

Veyda Conley is only a Martin freshman who is just starting her cross-country prep career, but she already has broken the girls’ school record in the 5,000-meter run.

She set the mark Aug. 30 in the Kalamazoo Invitational. She completed the course in a 21:22and was seventh in the race Rounding out the girls’ team were Kayden Jager, Lauren Taylor and Autumn Hayes. 

The boys’ team was led by Alex Morin at 22:10. Gari Salvador-Garcia and Jadon Dettman both competed in their first races of the season and their freshman year. Hunter Hayes, also a freshman, completed the team effort.

The Clippers will travel to Van Buren County Youth Fairgrounds Thursday, Sept.7, for the Hartford Teske Invitational.
