Martin girls finish 4th in invitational at Mendon

The Martin girls’ varsity track team score 66 points to take fourth place Friday at the eight-team John Green Mendon Invitational.

The boys’ team managed only 14 points and took seventh.

Freshman distance running sensation Veyda Coney won both the 1600- and 3200-meter races. She ran a personal best 5:38.91 to cross the finish line in the 1600 and logged a 12:42.94 in the 3200. She also was the anchor on the Lady Clippers’ winning 3200-meter relay, along with teammates Torryn Harris, Kayden Jager and Sara Schipper.

Ellyse Blackburn was runner-up in the high jump, clearing 4-8.

Harris turned in a second place performance in the open 400-meter run in 1:06.04.

Emily King and Jager took fourth and sixth, respectively in the 800.

The 400-meter relay team of Ellyse Blackburn, Schipper, King and Harris finished fourth. The same quartet fared even better in the 1600 relay, taking second.

For the guys’ team, Alex Morin took fourth in the 800 meters and was fifth in the 1600.

Gavin Meyers took fourth in the 300-meter hurdles.

Carson Cameruci tossed the discus 104-3 to claim fifth place.
