Martin girls split twin bill in softball season opener

The Martin girls’ softball team Tuesday afternoon split a season-opening doubleheader with Bangor. They lost the opener 6-3, but bounced back to take the nightcap, 8-5.

Makala Goddard was in circle for the first game allowing six runs on eight hits, striking out 15.

The Clippers’ bats were cold in the beginning, which created a gap in the first inning, when Bangor scored four times.

Alley Bacon led the Clippers in hits going 2-for-3. Kyia Bozzo had an inside the park home run and an RBI. Elizabeth Reinke and Goddard each came up with multiple stolen bases, as the team recorded six in that category

Marybeth Ritchie hurled the second game and picked up the win, striking out eight and allowing six hits and five runs (two earned) over six innings.

Kyia Bozzo collected three hits in four at bats, including a triple in first inning to start the Lady Clippers’ scoring.

The Vikings grabbed a 4-2 lead in the third inning, but the Clippers answered, thanks to an error and a we’ll executed sacrifice by Marybeth Ritchie. Martin widened the gap to 8-4 in the fifth after Alley Bacon tripled, scoring one run, and a wild pitch scored two more.

Clippers had nine stolen bases, with Biozzo leading with five.
