Martin High School. Friday. Six bells, Be there. Aloha.
A showdown between two girls’ high school basketball unbeatens will be on the menu. The perennially powerful Gobles team sporting an 8-0 record will invade to take on an upstart Martin outfit that is 6-0.
This is when the Lady Clippers finally get to learn just how good they are. They astonished just about everybody last Friday when they blew out (56-18) a Fennville team that was said to be 4-2, even without the services of their top scorer, junior Faith Guritz.
But the likes of Jaclyn Hildebrand on defense, Kiaya Warner on offense outside, Fredie Elkins rebounding inside and Gracie Shettler scoring inside, more than made up for Guritz’s absence. They need to turn in another solid outing this Friday to compete with the likes of a Gobles team that strangely was not listed among the top teams in Class C in the latest Associated Press poll.
Martin this week, after being overlooked in the first week, is rated No. 7 in Class D. All without one senior on the squad.
The Clipper boys, despite a disappointing loss to Fennville last Friday evening, are tied for eighth and they have a 7-1 record. They will play the Gobles guys at 7:30.
