Tonight, Friday, Oct. 23, will be one of the strangest evenings for high school football season.

Though earlier this fall nobody played on three consecutive Friday nights in August and early September, Oct. 23 will be the only time only one of the three local high schools had a ballgame during the regular season.

Martin’s contest at Bangor was called off, ending the Clippers’ regular season. No reason was given for the cancellation. Hopkins’ Parents’ Night home game against Kelloggsville was canceled because at least one Viking player had tested positive for the Covid-19 virus.

Wayland’s homecoming contest against Grand Rapids Ottawa Hills was still on as of today, with a starting time of 7 p.m. and homecoming selection ceremony and Parents’ Night all rolled into one. Interestingly, neither team has registered a victory this season. Wayland is trying to end a 17-game losing streak and Ottawa Hills’ skid is 13.
