Prospects are looking very good for the Martin High School varsity football team to qualify for the post-season playoffs for the first time since 2007.
The Clippers Friday night assured themselves of a winning season with a 52-0 trouncing of Galesburg-Augusta, moving their overall season record to 5-3. They will face Lawton next Friday in their last game of the regular season. Lawton had a 3-5 overall record in its first seven contests, and even if the Blue Devils can come up with an upset, Martin still is a good bet to get in with a 5-4 mark.
The Clippers went 7-4 in 2007, then fell fell on seriously hard times. They lost 56 games in a row before drubbing Bellevue 34-14 in 2014. But until Friday night they still hadn’t recorded a winning season.
You continue to forget, Martin lost 56 games in a row, losing their last game in 2007 to Climax-Scotts 46-22.
