
The Climax-Scotts/Martin wrestling team Saturday lost to perennial mat power Hudson in the Division 4 state finals of the MHSAA team wrestling tournament.
CS/M defeated Union City in the quarterfinal round and then edged St. Louis 30-25 in the semifinals when Jacinto Lopez scored a trilling pin at 105 pounds in the final match. The verdict put CS/M into the final round at Wings Stadium in Kalamazoo.
The Clippers’ Hybrid squad lost 45-25 in the championship to No. 1-ranked Hudson 45-25. It was Hudson’s third straight state title.
St. Louis, ranked No. 3 in the state, suffered its first team loss of the season in the semifinals Posting victories for CS/M were Logan Gilbert (120), Cole Reitz (132), Jayce Ritchie (144), Seth Toris (150), Haylen Buell (157), Jackson Bagwell (165), Sam Bleeker (215) and Jacinto Lopez (106).
Martin led Hudson 12-11 early in the championship match against Hudson, fell behind 21-12, but then rallied to tie the team count at 21-21 with a major decision from Buell (150) and a technical fall by Bagwell.
However, Hudson then posted 14 straight points to lead 35-21 with only three matches left. Sam Bleeker won his match bay major decision at 215 pounds, but by that time it was too late.
