Martin softball wins 1, delayed on nightcap

The Martin softball team won the first game of a doubleheader 9-7  over Delton Kellogg,  but had to pause the second game trailing 14-6 due to loss of daylight.

The girls will reschedule to finish the remainder of the game at a later date. 

Martin was first to get on the board in the first inning when Keri  Cornstubble doubled, scoring one run. The Panthers then tied it in the top of the second, but the Clippers responded with Anna Jager grounding out to take the lead. The ladies then added one run in the third when Mackenzie Schwartz dropped a liner, making the score 3-1.

The Panthers took the lead in the top of the fifth, but the ladies responded again scoring six runs on four hits to take the lead 9-6. Jager and Alley Bacon each drove in two runs. Bacon also collected three hits in four at bats. Milee Schwartz and Maggie Sego led the team with two bases on balls each and the girls amassed five stolen bases. 

Cornstubble earned the win for Martin with 9 strikeouts, yielding two earned runs. 

Martin will be back home Saturday for the Clipper Classic, beginning at 9 a.m.
