Hopkins and Martin had particularly good nights on the gridiron, coming through with easy victories.
But Wayland absorbed its first loss of the season after two victories with a 14-7 defeat at Middleville Thornapple Kellogg.
The Vikings improved their overall season record to 2-1 with a 42-20 triumph at Wyoming Godwin Heights.
Hopkins spotted Godwin 6-0, but then scored four straight times to take control of the O-K Silver Conference clash on the Wolverines’ turf. The Vikings answered in the first period with a touchdown and two-point conversion and then used an interception to set the table for a 14-6 advantage. They scored two more touchdowns and one conversion to mount a 28-6 lead at intermission.
Hopkins came up with two more TDs in the second half and added two kicked conversions.
Martin captured its 26th straight regular season victory on the gridiron by running past Marcellus 60-0. The Clippers have only been beaten in the playoffs in the past three seasons by the eventual state champion and by forfeit during the Covid-shortened season of 2020 since they switched to eight-man football.
The Clippers, who are 3-0 thus far this season, struck early and often, posting a 46-0 advantage at the half.
Wayland and Middleville were in a bruising scoreless struggle in the first 24 minutes, but the homestanding Trojans came though with a couple of touchdowns in the second half. The Wildcats now are 0-1 in t he O-K Gold and 2-1 overall.
