
The Martin softball team swept a doubleheader Tuesday against Galesburg-August, 10-5 and 13-2.
The Clippers first got on the board in the first game when Marybeth Ritchie singled scoring one run in the top of the first. A single by Anna Jager, a double by Alley Bacon and a single by McKenzie Schwartz helped Martin extend its early lead in the second.
Jager collected three hits at five at bats as the leadoff batter. The ladies accumulated 14 hits in the game. Jager and Bacon each collected three hits while Ritchie, Schwartz and Bacon each drove in two runs.
The team collected five walks for the game with Keri Cornstubble and Maybelle Noble leading the team with two bases on balls each. The Clippers stole eight bases, with Jager collecting five of those eight.
Cornstubble earned the win for Martin. She allowed six hits (three earned) over seven innings, striking out five.
The Clippers got on the board early in the nightcap in the top of the first inning after a passed ball scored one run and McKenzie Schwartz singled, scoring two runs. The ladies added to their early lead in the top of the second inning when Anna Jager singled, scoring one run and an error plated two more.
Alley Bacon as smoked the ball for a GRAND SLAM over the left field fence in the third inning to push the Clippers to a 10-2 lead. They piled up 10 hits in the game. Jager, Schwartz and Bacon each collected two hits. Bacon and Allison Rogers each stole multiple bases with the total for the team being seven.
Marybeth Ritchie earned the win on the mound for Martin. The starting pitcher surrendered one hit and two runs (one earned) over three innings, striking out six. Milee Schwartz pitched two innings of scoreless ball for Martin in relief. Schwartz allowed one hit while striking out four.
