Martin track teams both split in tri-meet at home

Veyda Conley won the 3200 and anchored the 3200 relay.

Both of the Martin High School track teams Wednesday lost to Saugatuck but defeated Black River Wednesday in a trio-meet.

The Lady Clippers handily defeated Black River 105-19, but lost to Saugatuck, 98.67 to 38.33. The guys lost to Saugatuck 95-32, but beat Holland Black River 71-54.

Alex Morin claimed first place in the 800-meter run in 2:16,51. He also took a third in the 3200.

Logan Kent was runner-up in the 110-meter high hurdles, a scant one-hundredth of a second from being the winner.

Gavin Meyers, a name associated heavily with football, won the 300-meter hurdles in 49.25 seconds.

Kyle Fennema, Seth Toris, Meyers and Kent hooked up for second in the 1600 relay.

Elliot Long and Braxton Mathis went 2-3 in the shot put for Martin. Carson Cameruci was second in the discus.

Kent finished second in the high jump.

For the girls’ competition, freshman Veyden Conley won the 3200 and was second in the 1600.

Makala Goddard and Nele Schneider went 2-3 in the 100 hurdles. Goddard also was runner-up in the 300 hurdles.

Ellyse Blackburn, Emily King, Sarah Schipper and Tory Harris hooked up to win the 400-meter relay. Schipper, Lilly Stocking, Emily King and Harris took first in the 1600 relay. Kayden Jager, Schipper, Stocking and Conley came in first in the 3200-meter relay.

Schipper finished second in the pole vault and Stocking was third in the long jump.
